Dee’s Ice Cream Trolley

  • Dee’s Ice Cream Trolley is the newest addition to Boise, Idaho’s Hyde Park and offers a chance to enjoy a sweet treat inside a vintage-inspired trolley designed as a tribute to the Treasure Valley’s interurban trolley system of the late 1800s.

The trolley project started when former Boise State football player Quinn Skillin was scrolling through Facebook Marketplace and a trolley listing for $20,000 caught his eye.

The interior offers an indoor seating area for about 10 guests, with booths, bar-style counters and even a chance to enjoy your treat from the driver’s seat. There is also outdoor seating with a handful of picnic tables topped with striped umbrellas.

Dee’s Ice Cream Trolley serves nine rotating flavors, all sourced locally from the Boise-based creamery, The STIL.

The partnership began after Skillin struck up a friendship with Kasey Allen, co-founder of The STIL, through their local gym. When Skillin pitched his trolley concept, Allen was immediately on board, agreeing to sell their ice cream wholesale to help bring his vision to life.

Hired to help build the visual identity we wanted to make something that felt old time-y and reflected the era when trolleys used to run up and down Hyde Park, where the Ice Cream Trolley sits today. So we mixed a few concepts together, Type from an old work truck in the 1910s and an Ice Cream that used to exist once upon a time also named Dee's as a nod to the former shop. The end result is a classic looking font that feels heritage yet modern and inviting.
